Five talented students from Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form will join the elite of British Education, after being selected to attend a three day residential summer school programme at the University of Cambridge.
The College has a long-standing tradition of excellence and a reputation for helpings its students to gain places at the most prestigious universities in the country. Each year, students progress to challenging courses including Law, Medicine, Veterinary Science, Architecture and Mathematics at universities including Oxford, Cambridge, Manchester and Newcastle – to name but a few!
From the 1st to 4th of July, five A Level students from the College enjoyed the outstanding opportunity to sample life at the University of Cambridge!
Holly Matthewman, Holly Mayor, Hannah Binns, Ithsham Hussain and Rukhsaanah Sarwar have been staying at one of the university colleges and attending academic taster sessions, supported by current undergraduate students.
The students are uniquely placed to find out about the University of Cambridge. They even got a taste of the local area, from a tour of the city, and they have been taking part in tours of the University Library, Museums and University departments.
In the evenings, the talented five have been participating in social activities. Students who have attended the summer school programme in previous years have taken part in punting, sports, theatre trips and even a disco!
Rukhsaanah Sarwar, 17, said, “The Cambridge summer school programme is an amazing opportunity. It will be incredible to live at the University of Cambridge campus and to be able to shadow current students at the university. I’m hopeful that I will be able to learn more about my chosen career!”
