Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form’s Netball Academy team has strengthened its winning reputation by triumphing at the North West regional BCS (British Colleges Sport) Netball tournament, held in Manchester.

Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form has a highly successful Netball Academy, which has won the North West BCS Netball League for the past four consecutive years. The College has outstanding facilities for sport, with a large multiuse Sports Hall and gymnasium, and from 2014 students will benefit from a new high-tech all weather pitch after the College successfully gained capital funding.

At the North West regional tournament, the girls played 5 games in the groups and won all 5. Competing against Loreto College in the semi-finals, the College team won 10-5, meaning that they would face Priestly College in the finals. It was a very close final, but we were thrilled to learn that our team won 10-8!

The winning team was made up of the following students;

Annie Wyld (L3 Business)

Nikki Harper (A Levels)

Olivia Bythell (A Levels)

Olivia Purtill (A Levels)

Sophie Valentine (L3 Sport)

Mawgan Naylor (A Levels)

Lucy Alderman (A Levels)

Esther Williams (A Levels)

Jodie Sutcliffe (L3 Sport and exercise science)

Emily Wilson (L3 Sport and exercise science)

Sport Tutor Lora Speak accompanied the girls and said, “It was a very close competition in the final but I was so proud of our girls, who put 110% effort in and wanted to come away with the plate from word go. They worked hard and fantastically as a team and deserved to win.”
