Five students from Nelson and Colne College entered the WorldSkills Show 2014 competition.
The College’s Beauty Therapy department has an outstanding reputation for providing the beauty industry with the next generation of highly skilled therapists, who have the skills to truly enhance and transform their clients. Students from the course have gone on to higher education at university level or equivalent and to achieve astounding careers in their chosen field.
Students consistently aim high, proving themselves in and out of the College, as shown when five students from the department, Fiona Read (18), Hayley Mackay (24), Katie Strettle (32), Rakshanda Rahoof (22) and Rebecca Furmston (20) competed in the WorldSkills Show 2014 Beauty Therapy competition!
WorldSkills UK champions and drives excellence in workplace skills through competition. The Show endeavors to stimulate ambition and aspiration in young people, to prove how expert skills generate a more productive workforce, and to demonstrate exceptional nationwide talent to a global stage! The Beauty Therapy competition focused on the role and tasks of a beauty therapist, including carrying out a range of treatments reflecting both current and traditional beauty therapy treatments.
Fiona and Katie both entered in Advanced Nail Enhancements; Hayley and Rakshanda entered in Advanced Beauty Therapy; and Rebecca entered in Intermediate Beauty Therapy. The students had all been training hard each week, honing their skills in preparation for the event. It was a long but enjoyable day, with students leaving the College at 6:30am and not returning until after 7pm. Katie even won overall third place for Advanced Nail Enhancements; a fantastic achievement!
