Staff and students at Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form are celebrating once again, as 2013 proves to be another ‘Outstanding’ year with an A Level pass rate of 100%
This year, 85% of our A Level students have achieved high grades A*-C, and 61% have achieved top grades A*-B.
Other outstanding statistics achieved this year, include 136 students gaining the coveted A*/A grades and 69 students have achieved a staggering accomplishment of 2 or more A*/A grades!
College Principal, Amanda Melton, was understandably delighted with the fantastic results and said,“I am thrilled for all of our students who have worked extremely hard this year and are fully deserving of their excellent success. Special thanks must be given to the College’s excellent team of staff for their continued commitment to brilliant teaching. Our students consistently feedback to us how their teachers’ continuous support is a major factor in their success. Nelson and Colne has a proud tradition of academic excellence and I am delighted to see that we will continue to serve the educational needs of the community with such great success. It is an exciting time for our students as they now move into university or employment, but I know that they will do so with great skills and increased confidence. They are a credit to East Lancashire.”
This excellent achievement builds on the College’s ongoing success. It has been graded as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in two full inspections since 2005 and is also a Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) Beacon College – confirming the College’s status as one of the best in the country. The College is also one of only a small elite selection of education establishments to have been awarded STEM Assured status by the New Engineering Foundation (NEF), which recognises excellence in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) provision within the further education sector.
This year a large number of students from the College will progress to top universities across the UK including the University of Cambridge, the University of Manchester, the University of St. Andrews, Lancaster University, the University of Leeds, the University of Edinburgh and many more. The College’s extensive specialist support programme, which was developed with the needs of high achievers in mind, recognises talented students early and they are mentored by staff who are highly experienced in helping students to progress to top institutions.
In addition, the College offers Pre-Professional Programmes, which prepare students for challenging careers including Medicine, Law, Teaching and Journalism, and this year, many students have successfully gained places at university to read some exciting and challenging degree programmes including Medicine, Architecture, Drama, Healthcare Science (Cardiac Physiology), Computer Science and Mathematics, Law, Journalism: Mulitmedia, Classical Literature and English, Natural Sciences and Physics with Astrophysics.
Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form has a long-standing tradition of excellence, with whole generations of families benefitting from the education they recieved as a student of the College. This year’s results, at 100% A Level pass rate, is further validation that the people of East Lancashire have a truly outstanding college on their doorstep; one which nurtures and supports its students so that they achieve to the very best of their abilities. It is largely due to the College’s small and caring environment and outstanding teaching that so many students are able to go on to some of the best universities in the country, or into challenging and worthwhile careers.
