Nelson and Colne College’s Catering team are celebrating a triple triumph – taking home one award, a Highly Commended accolade and a finalist status after two award ceremonies on the same night.

The NCC success was announced on Thursday evening, with the team winning the Partnership with Industry category and Mark Taft being awarded Highly Commended for Best Chef Lecturer at the Professional Association for Catering Education (PACE) Awards, in London. They were also named as a finalist in the Skills Provider category of the Red Rose Awards, in Blackpool.

The achievements come after a year of developing new and existing partnership work with outstanding businesses, including the award-winning Seafood Pub Company, Burnley FC, and The Grand, in Clitheroe, to help students gain real life experience and prepare themselves for their future career.

Debbie Howard, from the College’s Catering, Hospitality and Events department, said: “We are over the moon to see our team achieving success in not one, but three, award categories! Our staff go above and beyond to give our students the best opportunity to learn current and desirable skills to make them stand out to employers, and I am delighted that the partnership work, expert teaching and enrichment offers have been recognised!

“This success is also testament to the local businesses and community, who have helped to give our students fantastic opportunities to ensure they are work ready upon leaving College.”

This is the second year running that NCC’s Catering team have been recognised in the PACE Awards – with Jason Benn taking home the Best Hospitality Lecturer Award at the 2015 ceremony.
