Fifteen staff members at Nelson and Colne College have raised £501 for the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund after completing a sponsored fast.

As well as a desire to raise money to support families after the tragic events in Manchester, those joining the fast wanted to learn more about the experience of fasting. The group broke their fast with a celebration meal held at Shimla Spice in Burnley.

Head of Division for Pre-Advanced Study programmes at NCC Nicolo Manta said: “We wanted to organise the fast to bring together different faiths and backgrounds within College towards a common cause.

“It was extremely tough with the sponsored fast falling on one of the longest days of the year and one of the hottest.

“I enjoyed the experience and it certainly gave me a greater understanding and appreciation of what it means to fast.

“We chose the We Love Manchester Fund as it is extremely close to our local community and we felt we needed to play a proactive role in supporting the victims and the families of the recent terror attack.

“The sponsored fast has been tremendously successful, and all participants completed it, helping to raise a very good amount for the fund.

“We hope that this money will help the victims and support families during this difficult time and I would like to thank everyone who participated in the sponsored fast and those who donated.”
