A brand-new computer winged its way to one of our apprentices – after she outlined the career benefits of volunteering for a Preston theatre troupe.

Lucy Baines won a laptop following our recent Apprentice Development Day, by explaining how opportunities at the Preston Playhouse allied to experience with the Army Cadets UK, had helped stage a dramatic recovery in her mental health.

Personal development is a key ingredient in an apprentice’s journey and a recent activity and information day at Preston Town Hall saw work-based learners in trades from librarian to bricklayer swap their stories as well as take part in fun challenges.

The competition simply asked them to outline what a taste of the workplace and the continued support of their tutors meant to the learners.

The Preston Players have been entirely dependent on the support of volunteers front and backstage since their formation in 1949. Set designers and builders’ work creating different worlds for audiences often goes under the radar – and so Lucy’s triumph was particularly well deserved!
