Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form already has a national reputation for outstanding A Level success and is therefore thrilled to be welcoming new Assistant Principal Paul Britton to the Senior Management Team with overall responsibility for A Level provision.
Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form has a long-standing tradition of excellence, with whole generations of families benefitting from the education they received whilst studying there. Paul joins the College at a time of great achievement; in latest Government Data from the School’s and College’s Performance tables, the College have been highlighted as the BEST in this area of A Level grades!
This includes all grammar schools, colleges, school sixth forms and sixth form centres within Pendle, Burnley, Blackburn, Accrington and the Ribble Valley. Not only this, but it is the 4th highest performing college in the whole country for A Level grades, from 317 colleges, sixth forms and sixth form centres. This success follows on from previous data in 2013 which named the College’s students as having the highest A Level Value Added scores in the country. Value Added measures are just as crucial as pass rates and high grades; they look at the final results a student is awarded and compares them to the GCSE grades they achieve at school.
Paul joined the College as Assistant Principal (Advanced Studies) in April this year from York College. York is also a very highly achieving College, meaning that he brings a wealth of experience to his role, alongside enthusiasm and commitment to student success and fulfilment.
Paul said, “After studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Oxford, I have taught and led teams in a range of Further Education and Sixth Form colleges from Exeter to Hampshire to York. I am extremely excited about working at Nelson and Colne College; a place that manages to combine a real family feeling with truly outstanding achievements by our students. I have already found an exceptionally able and committed team of staff and look forward to spreading the word about the best 16-18 education in the region.
I am especially passionate about developing our A Level provision to ensure the best preparation for those students wanting to pursue an academic path. I have a particular interest in developing the higher level thinking skills and undergraduate style project work that ensure that Nelson and Colne students will be highly sought after by the most prestigious of universities!
