An open event for the new University Centre at Nelson and Colne College will be held later this month.

Adults who are keen to enhance their current career prospects or look at a new career path are invited to the College event on Wednesday 26th April, between 5.30pm and 7.30pm, to explore and learn more about the range of programmes being offered at NCC. The open event is also the ideal opportunity for College leavers looking to study a degree level qualification locally, without the expense of going off to University.

Adults will be able to gain valuable careers advice, discover their skills profile and find out the flexible learning options available at NCC which are also affordable and local.

From September, industry HNC qualifications, the equivalent of one year at University, will be available in Applied Science (Biology), Business, Sport, Computing and Systems Development and Manufacturing Engineering/Electrical and Electronic Engineering. HNDs and Higher Apprenticeships are also currently available in Engineering.

Both part time and full time study options are available and evening learning will be considered for each course, subject to demand.

As well as HNC/D qualifications, widely recognised for helping adults with professional development and career progression, NCC offers Access programmes, aimed at those aged 19+ looking to go to University, in Health Professions, Social Care, Teaching, Engineering and Humanities.

The Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) is also offered, and the Foundation Diploma in Art, for practising artists or designers, or those wanting to progress onto university to study a creative degree, is available as an option too.

Principal of Nelson and Colne College Amanda Melton said: “These qualifications are perfect for adults looking for a new career venture, who wish to upskill for professional development or those wanting to gain a University level qualification locally, flexibly and affordably.

“To have the option of transformational learning right on the doorstep really is fantastic for Pendle and the wider area, and we are delighted we are able to provide adults with the chance to fast track their career, as well as take advantage of the strong employer links that the College has developed over the years.

“It really is an incredibly exciting time for NCC and we look forward to welcoming adults to our University Centre Open Event on Wednesday 26th April.”
