Nelson and Colne College is set to host its annual Careers Expo where visitors can find out more about Apprenticeships, volunteering and work placement opportunities.

The Expo will be held at the college on Thursday 28 June between 5pm and 7pm and on the night there will be the chance to speak to employers and Apprentices across a wide range of sectors, and apply for live Apprenticeship vacancies. The event is aimed at school and college leavers and their parents, job seekers or individuals looking for a career change.

There will be workshops to take part in to develop employability and interview skills, as well expert careers advice and further information on progression to Nelson and Colne College’s University Centre.

Burnley FC in the Community staff will also be on hand to offer information on a new Traineeship programme that will be delivered in partnership with Nelson and Colne College.

More than 30 businesses are signed up so far from a wide range of employment sectors, including Business and Professional Services, Catering and Hospitality, Childcare, Creative and Digital, Engineering, Health and Social Care, Information Technology and more.

One company exhibiting at the event will be Pendle Engineering, and the business has had considerable success recruiting from the college since becoming an employer partner.

Chris Price, Production Manager at Pendle Engineering said: “A few years ago we became increasingly aware of a widening skills gap, and to combat this we decided to improve our Apprenticeship programme.

“We’ve partnered with Nelson and Colne College and they provide a fantastic opportunity for us to recruit out Apprentices in the form of their Careers Expo. From this, we get dozens of applicants and this enables us to select the candidates best suited to Pendle Engineering.

“We currently have eight Apprentices, four are in their first year and four are in their second year. We are really looking forward to the Careers Expo again and we will be looking to recruit another four Apprentices this summer.”

Nelson and Colne College’s Director of Apprenticeships and Training Barbara Livesey said: “Our Careers Expo is just around the corner and following the success of last year’s event, we’re delighted once again to be welcoming employers from Pendle and the surrounding areas into College to discover how we can work with their business, and introduce them to some of the area’s rising talent.

“This is a great opportunity for visitors to network with employers, see what opportunities are out there for them and develop vital employability skills.”

It’s not too late for employers to sign up to attend the Careers Expo, and anybody who would like to can contact the college’s Marketing Coordinator for Apprenticeships Gabriella Shaw on 01282 440289 or email g.shaw@nelsongroup.ac.uk
