Businesses have joined together for one of Pendle’s largest careers and networking events to help inspire the future workforce.
Work Inspirations Day is an annual event held at Nelson and Colne College, which sees Year 9 students engaging with local employers, taking part in practical demonstrations and learning more about College life, to get them thinking about their future.
Companies at the event included Little Blossoms of Barrowford, Warburtons, Chris Pugh Photography and JD Engineering. Tutors and College students were also on hand to showcase the array of courses on offer at NCC.
Director of JD Engineering Philip Heyworth said: “This is about inspiring the next generation of your business, so it is well worth it.
“I would recommend other local businesses get involved with this event in the future.”
And Angel Baranauskas, a Year 9 student from Colne Primet Academy, added: “It has been really good and I have learnt more about different industries. I have asked lots of questions, and found out more about local businesses.From today, I like the idea of studying either Beauty Therapy or Catering at Nelson and Colne College.”
Nelson and Colne College is dedicated to helping every student prepare for their dream job, and has recently launched NCC+ Careers Zone to offer additional support, such as CV development, interview skills, or general careers guidance.
Team leader of NCC+ Francesca Turner said: “We are delighted with the success of the College’s Work Inspirations Day and were so pleased that so many employers and students were able to enjoy the annual event. To see secondary school students talking to employers, tutors and current students, and learning about different sectors so early on is really encouraging, and will certainly stand them in good stead when they are making their choices of what to study at College.”
