Staff and students at Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form are celebrating as 2012 proves to be another outstanding year, with an A Level pass rate of 100%
This year, 86.1% of our A Level students have achieved high grades A*-C, and 60.2% have achieved top grades A* – B.
This excellent achievement builds on the College’s on-going success, as the sixth highest performing college in the country, and the first in East Lancashire based on overall student success.
The College has also recently been awarded STEM Assured® status by the New Engineering Foundation (NEF), which recognises excellence in STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology and Maths) provision within the Further Education sector.
Other outstanding statistics achieved this year, include 135 students gaining the coveted A*/A grades and 72 students have achieved the staggering accomplishment of 2 or more A*/A grades!
College Principal, Amanda Melton is understandably delighted with the outstanding results and said “I am thrilled for all of our students who have worked extremely hard this year and are fully deserving of their excellent success. Special thanks must be given to the College’s excellent team of staff for their continued commitment to brilliant teaching. Our students consistently feedback to us how their teachers’ continuous support is a major factor in their success. Nelson and Colne has a proud tradition of academic excellence and I am delighted to see that we will continue to serve the educational needs of the community with such great success. It is an exciting time for our students as they now move into university or employment, but I know that they will do so with great skills and increased confidence. They are a credit to East Lancashire.”
This year a large number of students from the College will progress to top universities across the UK including UCL, Imperial College London, Manchester, Lancaster, Warwick, Leeds, Liverpool, and many more. The College’s extensive specialist support programme, which was developed with the needs of high achievers in mind, recognises talented students early and they are mentored by staff who are highly experienced in helping students progress to top institutions.
In addition, the College offers Pre-Professional programmes, which prepare students for challenging careers including Medicine, Law, Teaching and Journalism, and this year, many students have successfully gained places at university to Medicine, Pharmacy, Law, Criminology, Mathematics, Primary Education with Special Educational Needs, Broadcast Journalism and Chemical Engineering.
Nelson and Colne College has a long-standing tradition of excellence, with whole generations of families benefitting from the education they received as a student at the College. This year’s results, which are the College’s Eighth consecutive year of improved results, are further validation that the people of East Lancashire have a truly outstanding College on their doorstep; one which nurtures and supports its students so that they achieve to the very best of their abilities. It is largely due to the College’s small and caring environment and outstanding teaching that so many students are able to go on to some of the best universities in the country, or into challenging and worthwhile careers.
