Enrolment Dates and Times

If you’ve already applied, you should have received your enrolment appointment details in the post but if not, don’t worry we are enrolling daily from Thursday 22nd August from 10am to 4pm. Remember to bring a copy of your GCSE results or prior qualifications to complete your enrolment.

Enrolment Checklist: What do I need to bring with me?

  • Your GCSE results and proof of any other qualifications and/or exam results. These are really important as you can’t enrol without them.
  • Details of your emergency contact – you will need their name, email address and phone number.
  • Evidence of your household income if applying for financial support for travel and kit.
  • If you don’t think you are eligible for financial support, please bring a credit or debit card to pay for travel and kit if required.
  • Details of any medical conditions you have.
  • A smile for your ID badge

 

What Happens at my Enrolment Appointment?

Step 1: Arrive!

Our Curriculum Staff will be on hand on enrolment day to answer any questions you may have about your chosen courses or College life.

They will check your personal details and will ask for further information if required so we can sign you up to your course, and give you your first day details. If you require advice or help from our Learning Support or Safeguarding Teams, they will be available to discuss any issues or questions you may have.

Step 2: Speak to Curriculum Staff

Here we will ask you to sign your Learner Agreement and you will get your ID badge which will be printed and given to you, ready for you to wear on your first day in September.

Step 3: Sign your Learner Agreement and get your ID Badge

You may need a bus pass to travel to College. At enrolment, we will help you to sign up for the correct pass.

Step 4: Sign up for your Bus Pass

Step 5: Congratulations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I don’t get the results I need for my chosen course?

No need to worry! On your Enrolment Day, we’ll provide advice and guidance to help you find an appropriate alternative course.

What if I need to re-sit my GCSE Maths and/or English exams?

If you need to re-sit these exams to improve your grades, our tutors will provide guidance during your enrolment.

What happens if I haven’t had my college interview yet?

If you’ve applied but haven’t had an interview, don’t worry. Your interview will take place with one of our friendly tutors on the day you enrol.

What if I haven’t completed my application yet? Is it too late?

Not at all! We’ll help you complete your application when you come to enrol. Just remember to bring your GCSE results with you.

I’ve applied for an Apprenticeship but haven’t secured employment. What should I do?

Our team will assist you in finding employment. If this isn’t possible before September, we can offer you a place on a suitable College programme aligned with your career goals. If you’ve already secured an apprenticeship, please inform our admissions team.

Bursary Information

What is a bursary?

A bursary is financial assistance provided by the College to support your studies, covering costs like travel, food, kits, trips, and equipment.

How do I apply for a bursary?

To apply, visit Pay My Student and sign in with your College Microsoft account. Complete the form and submit it after agreeing to the declaration. For assistance, visit Student Services.

Can Apprentices apply for the bursary?

Unfortunately, apprentices are not eligible for our bursary. However, you can contact your assessor for any financial assistance you may need.

Where can I find my login details?

Your login details are your College email address and password (e.g., 312345@nelsongroup.ac.uk). If you don’t have these details, contact IT support at itsupport@nelsongroup.ac.uk or call 01282 440239.

What evidence do I need to provide?

If you or your parents receive benefits like Working/Child Tax Credit or Universal Credit, you’ll need to upload relevant documents. For those in employment without benefits, we’ll need wage slips, a P60, or an SA302 form.

If you don’t have evidence of household income, please contact Student Services, and we’ll consider your circumstances.

Am I entitled to a free bus pass?

If your household income is less than £37,500, you’ll receive a free digital Transdev bus pass. For incomes above £37,500, subsidised passes are available for full-time students.

I’m 19+, what will the bursary cover for me?

If you’re 19+ and don’t have an EHCP, the bursary can cover childcare, travel costs, and specific course equipment. Note that your bursary application won’t be approved until all outstanding fees are resolved.

Is the bus pass digital or physical?

All bus passes are digital and accessible via the Transdev Go app on your smartphone.

What areas do the bus passes cover?

We provide three termly bus passes covering Pendle, Blackburn, and Lancashire, depending on your home address.

Am I entitled to Free College Meals?

You may qualify if your household receives certain benefits, such as Job Seekers Allowance, Universal Credit, or Child Tax Credit.

How will I know if my bursary application is approved?

We’ll email your College account once your application is assessed. If we need more information, we’ll get in touch.

Do I need to reapply for the bursary each year?

Yes, all continuing students must reapply each academic year, providing updated financial information.

Additional Information

What are my travel options if I’m not driving or walking?

We offer various direct bus services and subsidised travel for 16-18-year-olds. Our Transdev passes include unlimited evening and weekend travel. Cycling to College is also encouraged.

Do I need to purchase any course-specific items before September?

Some courses require specialist equipment, which should be ordered during or after enrolment. Please wait until enrolment to make any purchases. More information can be found in your enrolment guide.

Do I need to notify anyone about Additional Learning Support needs?

If you have a learning difficulty or disability and require extra support, contact our Learning Support Team at als.ncc@nelsongroup.ac.uk or als.arc@nelsongroup.ac.uk. Our team will be available on enrolment day.
