The Burnley Football Club Shadow Youth Team (SYT) gives talented young male players aged 16-18 the chance to combine academic studies with practical football experience and is delivered by BFC in the Community staff in partnership with Nelson and Colne College.
What does the programme include?
- You will train four times a week following a playing and development strategy under the guidance of UEFA licensed coaches.
- You will represent BFC in the National Football Youth League (NFYL), English Football League (EFL), Community and Education Football Alliance (CEFA) League and AoC Football League.
- You will study on the full time BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport Coaching and Development (equivalent to three A Levels).
- There may also be additional fixtures with English Premier League and English Football League Community sides.
- You will have the opportunity to complete your FA Level 1 in Football Coaching alongside your academic subjects which includes emergency first aid and safeguarding qualifications.
- Overseas end of season training camps/tournaments provide excellent opportunities to train and play in different countries whilst experiencing different cultures.

What are the entry requirements?
To access the Shadow Youth Team (SYT) you have to be studying on an NCC programme, preferably in Sport, although there may be other courses available. Each programme has their own entry requirements which can be found on the course pages on the website.
