A selection of exciting new programmes will be launched at Nelson and Colne College this September to help adult learners get back into education.
The Access to Higher Education courses in Humanities, Health Professions, Science, Social Care and Teaching are designed to prepare adults who do not have traditional qualifications for study at University. They also provide an excellent route into professional careers.
The launch of the programmes comes following the success of the Access to Health Science Professions (Nursing and Midwifery) programme – a 30 week course, which has now been expanded to include other healthcare professions.
For mum-of-three Stephanie Almond (30) the course provided an invaluable opportunity for her to pursue her dream career, and she is now looking forward to beginning a Birth and Beyond course at the University of Worcester next month.
She said: “I was really nervous about getting back into education again and meeting new people, but I have really enjoyed my time at Nelson and Colne College.
“I wanted to do this for my family, and they are so proud of what I have achieved.
“You are never too old to go back to College, and if you want something enough you need to work hard to get it – it is all worth it in the end. I am really thankful for the support NCC has given me, and I am now nervous and excited to start my new job.”
Access to Humanities will allow students to explore the social sciences, while expanding their study, research and academic writing skills, and Access to Social Care will focus on a wide range of topics, from social psychology, developmental psychology, safeguarding and social justice.
In the Access to Teaching programme subjects include Teaching and Learning along with Psychology and Sociology, and the Access to Science programme will look at Biology, Human Physiology and Chemistry, alongside study skills.
