Nelson and Colne College’s Business Centre is proud to work with a wide number of successful businesses across East Lancashire. Hoping to raise awareness about the uses of social media for businesses, the College held a special master class, with visiting marketing expert Julian Jordan of Brandspankin’.
As part of the Aim Higher project, the ‘Social Media for Business Master Class’ event hosted by Nelson and Colne College proved a overwhelming success with local businesses. The event was attended by representatives from a wide range of business sectors, including Recruitment, Motor Sales, Driving Instructors, Florists, Letting Agents, Clothing Retailers and IT Support Specialists.
Aimed at local businesses who are looking to use social media as a marketing tool, and designed to inform them and their employees about the benefits of using social media in the business world, the event also focussed on the importance of the IT Apprenticeship in supporting social media, and how Apprentices on Nelson and Colne College’s IT Programmes can use social media tools such as Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin, as free marketing channels to generate new business and increase a companies profile.
The evening was led by a local guest speaker, marketing and social media guru Julian Jordan of Brandspankin. Julian said, “Twenty-five years after studying there, it was great to go back to Nelson and Colne College to deliver the Social Media Marketing course to local businesses and apprentices. The College has seen such a lot of fantastic development – it’s a brilliant facility for people in Pendle, whether students, apprentices or the businesses that will benefit from the talent that is nurtured there. I was really impressed by how lively the master class was – it’s clear that there is a real entrepreneurial spirit here in Pendle. Social media is enabling our local businesses to compete on a level playing field and they are seizing the opportunity!”
Due to the popularity and success of the Social media for Business Master Class, the Business Centre plan to hold more master classes, which will be held over the coming months. These will be covering areas such as ‘The Importance of Team Leading and Management’, ‘Accountancy Apprenticeships’, and ‘Health and Social Care Apprenticeships’, all led by leaders in their specific field.
