Hundreds of children and families enjoyed a free day of activities and entertainment with Lancashire Adult Learning and Nelson and Colne College.
LAL’s annual Family Fun Day was blessed with a stunning day of sunshine and people travelled from far and wide to take advantage of intriguing family learning opportunities such as augmented reality on the tablet, Lego robotics and K’Nex challenges.
A wide range of activities were also on offer and these included tin can alley, the spaghetti challenge, face painting, balloon making, a bouncy castle, a football competition with Burnley FC in the Community and more.
And if that wasn’t enough for visitors, there was also a visit from Frozen stars Elsa and Anna, a dance performance by Colne Primet Academy students, stalls to browse and a variety of food available including a barbecue, donut van and ice cream.
Christopher Booth, from Nelson, brought his granddaughter Ruby, aged three. He said: “I think it has been a brilliant. Elsa and Anna were fantastic. We’ve had a really great day out and everyone seems to have had a good time.”
Irfan Desai came with his family from Preston. He said: “We’ve really enjoyed it. It’s perfect for children and the weather has been amazing. The children loved the Lego robotics – that was their favourite activity.”
Rosalind Train, from Burnley, attended with her partner Dave and granddaughter Ruby, aged five. She said: “We’ve had a great time. I came along really to thank my teacher at LAL Hayley Sharples as I have just finished my Level 2 ICT course. Ruby loved having her face painted and it has been a lovely day.”
Lancashire Adult Learning offers a wide range of family learning programmes throughout schools across Lancashire. These programmes are an ideal way for parents, grandparents or carers to learn together with their children and to discover more about how their children learn. As parents or carers, LAL’s expert team help families to develop skills, grow in confidence, and be better able to support their child’s learning.
LAL’s Curriculum Leader for Family Learning Alison Masheder said: “Our Family Fun Day was a huge success and it was a delight to see so many children and families enjoying learning together which is what it is all about. There was a range of free family learning activities that we offer such as arts and crafts and ICT tasters, and they complemented the other activities and entertainment very well.”
Visitors to the Family Fun Day were also able to pick up a copy of LAL’s brand new course guide for the Autumn, filled with a huge range of planned provision across the Red Rose County. This includes Arts and Crafts to Humanities classes, Languages to Health and Wellbeing sessions and Employability courses.
