Fantastic new government figures show that Nelson and Colne College is number one in the country for learning achievement.
The newly published National Achievement Rate Tables reveal NCC has a national league-leading overall achievement of 93%, for all ages and levels – based on exams and qualifications completed in 2016.
Compiled by the Education and Skills Funding Agency, the statistics also place NCC as the number one general FE College in England for 16-18 classroom learning achievement rates at all levels and second in the country for its overall 16-18 Apprenticeship success, measured against 208 general FE colleges in England.
On top of that, NCC is first nationally for its achievement rates with 16 to 18-year-olds completing Intermediate Apprenticeships, and second nationally for 19 to 23-year-olds completing Advanced Apprenticeships.
Principal Amanda Melton said: “Getting the right qualifications is such an important part of a young person’s journey to their future career.
“NCC staff are extremely committed to making sure our students fulfil their potential and every year we seem to see them doing better and better. The support of schools, parents and local universities in this is also essential.
“This year, we have experienced the challenge of new GCSE and A Level exams but the dedication to making sure our students continue to succeed continues to remain at the core of what we do.
“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate my fantastic team of staff and all of our students and their families on another successful year.”
The extraordinary new figures come after NCC was revealed to be the best College nationally for Maths and third for English at Level 2, based on progress scores, earlier in the year in Department for Education statistics. At the same time, NCC placed best in Lancashire for A Levels, according to progress scores, of those colleges in the county with more than 100 students entered into exams. Twenty per cent of NCC leavers in 2016 went on to study at a Russell Group University – the best in the country.
A Level student Anna Stephenson, who has an offer from the University of Cambridge to study Modern and Medieval Languages, said: “NCC definitely prepares you well for University as you develop independence here and the teaching and support is of outstanding quality.”
Level 3 ICT student Haqeem Anwar, who is heading to Manchester Metropolitan University to study Computer Forensics and Security, said: “My time at NCC has been great. The College environment is amazing and my teachers have been so supportive in helping me develop my skills for the future.”
Students starting at NCC are each given an individualised study programme, helping them to develop on a personal and professional scale. As well as their core subject/s, they are also encouraged to take part in a wide range of extra-curricular activities, take part in career-focused tutorials, carry out independent study, develop industry links, and more.
This year’s Vocational and A Level results will be announced over the Summer, with A Level Results Day taking place on Thursday 17th August. Students wanting to enrol at NCC for a September start can do so from Thursday 24th August – on GCSE Results Day.
