Future female leaders have benefitted from a morning of motivation, debate, presentations and one-to-one mentoring as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week.

Organised by Role UK, senior female managers, directors and business owners worked with a group of 50 female students from Nelson and Colne College to “ignite sparks” and help develop a range of entrepreneurial skills during an Oysters and Pearls event. Role is a company that works with people across the country to build confidence, improve management skills, develop succession planning and ensure opportunity for all.

Activities during the event included fascinating talks from Lancashire ladies who have challenged adversity to become leaders in their own field, communication and confidence building exercises and one to one conversation with business owners and senior managers over lunch and coffees.

Wendy Bowers, Founder of Role and past President of East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce said: “Our Oysters and Pearls half-day events are facilitated by a professional actress, former NCC student Amy Strange, and are full of motivation, debate and sharing.

“We want the girls to believe in themselves and their future, and show them that we have superb career opportunities on the doorstep in addition to a whole world of opportunity they can reach with the right attitude and support. Delegates at previous events have told us it was ‘life changing’, and we were thrilled to come and spend time with students at Nelson and Colne College.”

Principal of Nelson and Colne College Amanda Melton added: “Our students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to work with and be inspired by business professionals, and we are very grateful to Role for coordinating such a fantastic event. Opportunities like this are invaluable to our students, helping them look ahead to their future career and proving that no aspiration is ever too big.

“We are absolutely committed to helping students not only develop on their course, but personally and professionally as well, so that are ‘career ready’ upon leaving College.”

Global Entrepreneurship week is celebrated in 135 countries around the world and last year more than 35,000 events were held to encourage future and budding entrepreneurs.

Lancashire is home to some of the world’s most innovative businesses, and Role can help in showcasing a whole range of careers and opportunities available to our next generation.
