Talented and aspiring footballers are being encouraged to sign up to the Burnley FC Shadow Youth Team – which is run in partnership with Nelson and Colne College.

The two year programme offers young players currently in Years 11 and 12 an exclusive opportunity to enter the professional world of football, by combining academic studies with practical football experience. Outstanding players will be offered genuine pathways into a professional football academy.

Students that make it onto the youth team can benefit from:

  • A Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport Performance and Excellence
  • An FA Level 1 Coaching Award
  • A professionally trained coaching team
  • Games played in the National (U19) Football Youth Development League for professional clubs only
  • Interaction with Burnley FC first team, U21s and Youth Team Scholars
  • A minimum of eight hours dedicated coaching a week
  • Support from a professional club
  • Full Burnley FC training wear worth more than £200
  • Semi Pro Club, American and Australian scholarship links for players
  • Fitness and nutrition development
  • Opportunities to be scouted by Burnley FC Scouts and other professional clubs

All trials will be held at Nelson and Colne College. Those taking part are asked to bring appropriate clothing and footwear for a 3G surface.

Trial dates are:

  • Saturday 12th March, 1pm – 3.30pm
  • Wednesday 6th April,  12noon – 3pm
  • Saturday 7th May, 1pm – 3.30pm
  • Wednesday 1st June, 12noon – 3pm
  • Tuesday 5th July, 5.30pm – 7.30pm

New statisticsnelson college g for web, from the Department for Education’s School and College Performance Table, have revealed Nelson and Colne College to be the top provider of A Level and vocational qualifications in the local area.

Principal Amanda Melton said: “This latest news is testament to the hard work of our exceptional staff and students, who regularly go above and beyond to achieve success!”

The College received a 100% pass rate in both A Level and vocational studies in 2015, and the latest ALPS report also revealed NCC to be “outstanding” across the board. The ALPS report focuses on value added performance, and shows that NCC students regularly achieve better than their predicted gradesReports were given to 1,480 schools, sixth form colleges and further education colleges across the country.
