Some of the top businesses in East Lancashire celebrated in style at the Fence Gate Inn on Thursday 14th March, as they attended the Nelson and Colne College Business Awards.
National Apprenticeship Week runs from 11-15th March and so there couldn’t be a better time to celebrate and acknowledge the benefits that further training can make to a person’s career and the added value that this can bring to the company they work for.
During the event, awards were presented to young apprentices, whose motivation and drive brings youthful vigour to their organisation. The event also recognised adult learners, whose enhanced skills, coupled with their considerable experience, drive business forward. Companies whose investment in apprentices has boosted their profits and productivity, and who have shown on-going commitment to the training of their workforce were also honoured, in recognition of the contribution they have made to the regeneration of the East Lancashire area.
On arrival, guests enjoyed a Bucks Fizz reception with sumptuous canapés created by the Fence Gate especially for the occasion. They also had the chance to mingle with other special guests, including the Mayor of Pendle, Councillor Asjad Mahmood and Mrs. Samina Khan, and a number of eminent business people from the region.
The College was also thrilled that BBC Breakfast presenter Tony Livesey, who is a former pupil of the College, was able to attend and present the awards. Tony talked about his pride in the area of East Lancashire and how it is a great place to live and work – a sentiment echoed throughout the awards. He then went on to announce the winners of the awards offered.
BBC Presenter Tony Livesey, who kindly presented the prizes on the evening said, “It was a real privilege to be invited back to the College that gave me such a start in life, 33 years after I first walked through the doors. I was immediately impressed with the air of professionalism surrounding the Business Awards. It is obviously an occasion that the local business community take very seriously.
“The winners all had inspirational back stories and I was most encouraged that those who are in a position to help learners of all ages were not only present but supportive, enthusiastic and full of encouragement.”
“This ought to be a real fixture in Pendle. If just one life is changed for the better because of these awards then surely that’s justification enough for a successful return for the Business Awards 2014!”
