We recently welcomed Year 11 students from local high schools for a day in our fantastic Media and Creative Arts Department.
Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form has an outstanding reputation for art and creative media, with many students progressing to prestigious universities and art schools each year. Hoping to inspire the next generation of artists and media students, the College was pleased to welcome a total of 45 students from Colne Primet Academy, West Craven High School, Unity College, Marsden Heights Community College and Pendle Vale College.
The schools were invited to bring their brightest and best creative students to the College to take part in sessions including motion graphics, textiles, screen printing techniques with stencil and colour, filming and editing, photography and fine art; including rapid reductive drawing techniques.
Art Teacher at Colne Primet Academy, Kate Hooper, said “The best aspects of the day was the variety of the sessions that were offered, as students sampled art disciplines they otherwise would not experience.”
Nelson and Colne College’s School Liaison and Admissions Team Leader, Johdi Dinsdale said,“We were really excited to welcome students from our local high schools to take part in a day of creativity! The studios at the College are really fantastic and the students who visited were a credit to their school. Art is a very popular choice at College and with the growth of art industries locally, such as Media City and the BBC relocating to the North West; it means that students are in the best place to start a career in the creative industries. Hopefully the day at College will have inspired them for their further education and careers.”
