One of our A Level students is celebrating after being accepted into the Sutton Trust’s Pathway to Law programme at the University of Manchester.

Great Harwood student Hannah Fielding is currently studying for A Levels including Law, Government and Politics, History and Sociology at Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form. The College has a long-standing reputation for excellence and each year sees hundreds of its students head off to some of the best universities in the country.

Part of the College’s outstanding success is down to it’s fantastic team of teaching staff, who treat each student as an individual and look for ways to nurture and encourage their career dreams!

Encouraged by her Law tutor, Hannah successfully applied for a place on The Sutton Trust’s Pathway to law course. Completing her placement at The University of Manchester, Hannah will join other talented A Level students at the university, where over the course of two years, they will take part in sessions including subject-specific revision, CV and interview techniques, choosing and applying to the right university and workshops on different areas of Law. She will also attend a trip to the Inner Temple in Law, various open days at other Pathways universities and attend a residential conference aimed at giving students a taste of life at university. In addition, Hannah will be guided by an e-mentor; who will be a current undergraduate Law student and be guided in gaining work experience in the legal sector, at leading law firms, chambers, regional firms and non-profit organisations such as legal advice centres

Hannah said, “I was encouraged to apply for the Sutton Trust Pathway to Law programme by my tutor Sharon; I had studied law at GCSE and knew that I wanted to explore the careers available to me in this profession. I was really excited to be offered a place, I had to take part in a university application style process so was thrilled when I found out I had been successful. My ultimate aim is to study Law at either Oxford or Cambridge and hopefully this experience will help me to realise my ambitions.”
