Nelson and Colne College graduate Adam Watson is making his mark in his new role as a fire safety and security engineer.
The 23-year-old, who completed his HND and BEng (Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering with the College in 2021, was named Apprentice of the Year at a recent awards ceremony by employer Chubb Fire & Security UK&I, Blackburn.
The event was exclusively organised by Chubb, a leading provider of fire safety and security solutions, to celebrate the achievements of 22 of the company’s graduating apprentices.
Each of the 22 rising stars received certificates of completion and Adam was one of three apprentices to be given special recognition as Chubb’s Apprentices of the Year.
Adam, of Darwen, said: “Being named Apprentice of the Year is really special, and I’m delighted to be recognised for all my hard work over the past 12 months. I’m looking forward to seeing where my career with Chubb takes me.”
Adam’s Programme Leader at Nelson and Colne College, Dr Steve Wright, said: “I was delighted to see Adam receive this award. He had been a great student and a pleasure to teach. I wish him all the best for his future career.”
Jim McSharry, Chubb’s Early Careers Manager, hosted the event and believes that apprentices are a vital part of any organisation.
He said, “Our celebratory event is an excellent opportunity to highlight our apprentices’ incredible value to the organisation. While learning on the job, our apprentices inject enthusiasm and fresh ideas into their teams. They are willing to learn, and their energy is refreshing to see.
