Students studying for qualifications in Level 3 Public Services have enjoyed a trip to London as part of their course.
Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form has an outstanding Public Services department and completion of the course is recognised as being a highly successful route into employment in the emergency and armed services, or to university and training. Students take part in theory lessons encompassing command and control, criminal justice, government and politics and land navigation and also a number of physical activities ranging from Ghyll climbing and orienteering, to circuit training and residential trips with the Army and Navy. Each year, students progress into the Services and onto degree courses such as Police and Criminal Investigation.
The College’s Level 3 students have recently attended a trip to London and the Houses of Parliament as part of the ‘Government’ unit. Whilst at the Houses of Parliament they toured both Houses before meeting up with Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson at Downing Street for a photo call outside No. 10.
To round of the trip and build on the cohesion of the group, they also visited Madame Tussauds and the Apollo Theatre to watch ‘Wicked’. The students stayed overnight in a Youth Hostel in Holland Park, which was the first time that many of the students had stayed in the capital.
