A Catering and Hospitality student from Nelson and Colne College, Jonathan Nadin, has landed his dream job as a commis chef at one of the UK’s best loved hotels, Rudding Park in Harrogate, Yorkshire.

Jonathan joined the College from Blessed Trinity RC College in Burnley to study for qualifications in Professional Cookery. Having long held the ambition to be a top chef, Jonathan has worked part-time as a waiter during his studies so that he can gain a more rounded view of the industry.

The College is keen to emphasise the importance of integrating industry expertise on its students’ studies. This is achieved through specialist workshops with visiting guest speakers and visits to restaurants and suppliers. In the past, students have worked alongside BBC Asian Fusion Chef Aazam Ahmad and enjoyed presentations from the team at Michelin Starred Northcote. These experiences enhance the students’ culinary repertoire and make them outstanding candidates when looking for employment. As part of this programme of visits, Jonathan enjoyed a tour of Rudding Park with his fellow students, taking his C.V along with him on the day.

Award-winning Rudding Park is one of the most beautiful hotels in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. A privately owned AA 4 Red Star hotel and spa with a gym, private cinema, restaurant and 18 hole parkland golf course. Rudding Park was recently voted as the No. 1 Hotel in the UK at the TripAdvisor Traveller’s Choice Awards 2013, meaning that Jonathan has a wonderful start to his career in the catering profession.

Jonathan said, “I am really looking forward to starting at Rudding Park, it is a perfect start to my career. The hotel is great. 4 stars and voted the best hotel in the UK and 4th best in the world at the TripAdvisor Traveller’s Choice Awards! I’ve learnt a lot whilst I’ve been at College and I’d like thank all the tutors for pushing me in the right direction and particularly Nick Hatch for helping me in securing the job at Rudding Park and for taking the time to help me get through the Level 3 course.”

Catering tutor Nick Hatch said, “Each year we see many young people enter the kitchens but some do stand out from the rest. Jonathan was keen and enthusiastic from the start and working at Rudding Park will be a fantastic springboard for his career. “
