Nelson and Colne College has been celebrating the creativity, innovation and achievements of its talented students at its annual hairdressing competition, held at the Colne Municipal Hall.
The College has a long-standing tradition of expertise in the Hairdressing Industry, with a reputation for providing local salons with the next generation of top stylists. In addition to counting a large number of local salon owners as former students, the College also sees a number of students each year progress to the top salons in Manchester, Leeds and London – and can even count a number of globe trotters as former students! In addition, several students have progressed onto prestigious degree programmes training in Hair and Beauty for the film and television industry.
The Hairdressing Competition Evening is intended to showcase the talents of the College’s talented students, where each year, they must create a model to a set theme. Competition was fierce, with a wide array of skills displayed on the evening – bringing glitz and glamour to the Muni!
Curriculum Leader for Hairdressing, Clair Pye said, “The students from all 3 Levels have completed some outstanding work once again at our annual Hairdressing competition evening. The practical skills and creativity on show tonight has once again demonstrated the outstanding standard of students that we have in the section. The motivation that the tutors instil in them is remarkable and the whole evening is a real team effort.
This year we had 10 competitions, including new competitions as part of our VRQ men’s and ladies Hairdressing and Barbering courses, an exciting addition for the future – As well as the Level 3 Avant Garde competition and show, which each year gets better and better.
Special thanks to all the companies who donated prizes and our wonderful judges. Here’s to next year!”
The Atmosphere at the event was electric, with friends and family of the competitors attending to show support, and potential hairdressing students, who were keen to see what they might be learning in the future on a Hairdressing programme at the College.
