Students at Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form were keen to take part in Student Health Week – enjoying some unusual and fun activities to raise awareness of a healthy lifestyle.

Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form has a long-standing reputation for providing an outstanding education. However, it is also concerned with both the emotional and physical wellbeing of its students and with this in mind, the College’s Student Services department recently ran a Student Health Week

Throughout the course of the week, students and staff were able to take part in a variety of fun activities, which also helped to raise awareness about health initiatives and promote a healthy lifestyle. This included visitors from Pendle Wavelengths, who attended the College with two spinning bikes for the students to try and also offered free health checks including weight, BMI and blood pressure checks. Students and staff were also able to take advantage of a FREE 1 week pass to Pendle Wavelengths!

Also visiting the College was representatives from Pendle Leisure Trust’s Live Well, Eat Well Team, who also run the community allotments. They attended one lunchtime complete with homemade carrot and ginger soup and mixed vegetable Tabulleh (which is like couscous and very low in fat), and offered free samples to the hungry students!

Students and staff were also encouraged to participate in a walk through Barrowford village with the Walk for Life team. This walk was created especially for the College and participants braved the rain to enjoy a 30 min walk though the village and park.

To bring the week to a close, the Student Services Team ran Fruity Friday! The team, including the College’s Health Practitioner were on hand to offer advice on healthy eating and gave away free fruit punch and fruit kebabs which were a big hit!
