Nelson and Colne College has been celebrating the outstanding talents of its Beauty Therapy students at its annual Beauty Competition Evening.

The College has an outstanding reputation for its expertise in the field of Beauty Therapy, with a wealth of experience offered by its tutors who, in addition to owning and managing their own salons, have worked in the industry all over the globe! Every year, students progress into a wide range of employment; some even showing true entrepreneurial spirit by opening their own salons. In addition, in previous years, students have gone on to study university courses such as Media Make Up, Complimentary Therapy and Make Up Artistry and Special Make Up Effects.

The Beauty Therapy Competition Evening is intended to showcase the talents of its students, who are working towards NVQ qualifications at all levels. Competition was fierce, with a wide array of skills displayed on the evening – bringing glitz and glamour to the Ace Centre in Nelson!

Ann Flynn, Head of Division for Beauty Therapy, Hairdressing and Catering said, “The Beauty Therapy competition evening is an annual event and each year, the standard just gets better and better! The creativity and talent which is showcased on the evening is extraordinary! To acknowledge and celebrate both the Olympics and Diamond Jubilee this year, we had an Olympic and Royal theme in some of the competitions and the way the students interpreted this in their designs was fantastic. The College Beauty Therapy department has an established reputation for helping talented therapists to reach the very top in their profession; whether as a salon owner or manager, make-up artist for film and television, or travelling the world as a spa therapist, our students continually go on to fantastic careers in this glamorous industry. As the Head of Division, I am extremely proud of what the students have achieved and I’m sure that they have bright futures ahead of them.”

The evening was very well attended by friends and family of the competitors and potential students, who were keen to see what they might be learning in the future on a Beauty Therapy programme at the College.
