Students from Nelson and College are celebrating an outstanding 100% Advanced BTEC pass rate this Results Day 2020.

Despite an unprecedented year amidst the Covid-19 outbreak, Nelson and Colne College saw a 100% pass rate for students completing BTEC qualifications, with a staggering 85% of students achieving high grades.

Many are now ready to progress onto some exciting and career-focused destinations, including university, an Apprenticeship or a job. This includes Ellie Carpendale, 18, formerly of West Craven High School, who achieved an A* Diploma in Education and Childcare.

Ellie, who has secured employment at Thornton Hall Farm, said: “College has been a great support network for me to get a clear understanding of the job role of working with children. I’d love to have my own nursery or childcare setting one day.

“I have loved my time at Nelson and Colne College, as I have made many new friends. The staff on my course were really helpful in getting me to achieve my very best and would always be there to help when needed.

“You are pushed to be the best and you have the support in order for you to achieve this.”

Taylor Barraclough, 18, formerly of Ss John Fisher and Thomas More RC High School, has progressed on to the University of Central Lancashire to study Professional Policing, after achieving Triple Distinction* in Uniformed Services.

He said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Nelson and Colne College as it has given me many opportunities to grow as a person and helped me to gain the grades that I want. I have met new people throughout this time who have become close friends.

“I would recommend Nelson and Colne College to others as you are treated as an individual in the way you learn, and your needs and growth is at the forefront of your tutors’ minds all the time. My ambition is to become a role model through a successful career as a police officer.”

Shumaila Akhtar, 18, formerly of West Craven High School, gained a Triple Distinction* grade too and is also heading to the University of Central Lancashire for a Pharmacy degree to pursue her career aim of becoming a pharmacist.

Shumaila said: “Throughout my time at College I felt welcomed and always received the support I needed. My teachers always encouraged me to be the best version of myself in lessons and in life.

“The method of teaching at Nelson and Colne College is excellent and all the students are given amazing opportunities to prepare them for their future.

“I would definitely recommend Nelson and Colne College to others because it offers such a welcoming and safe environment to its students. Every individual is respected and has the necessary support to enable them to perform to their best.”
