Fun activities and fair weather saw an estimated record number of 1,800 people flock to Lancashire Adult Learning’s annual Family Fun Day at Nelson and Colne College.
Visitors attending the fun day enjoyed a wide range of fantastic, free, and fun Lancashire Adult Learning activities, including Lego Robotics, Ozobots, Picture Animation, and arts and crafts tasks.
Market stalls with tempting hand-crafted gifts, face painting, balloon modelling stands and fantastic food stalls proved extremely popular.
On top of that, visitors had the chance to challenge themselves on a sports inflatable, meet a number of visiting animals from Wellybobs Mobile Farm, enjoy a Flashbang Science Show, laugh at children’s entertainer Dizzy Dave, and get fit with Pendle Leisure Trust’s activities.
Lancashire Adult Learning’s new Autumn programme of courses was also officially launched on the day, and members of the public can now enrol onto one of the many new courses on offer across the Red Rose County when the new academic year begins in September.
Charlotte Underwood, from Nelson, attended with her son Austin, 6, and niece, Holly, 3. She said: “It’s a been a great day. The children have really enjoyed the tombolas and the weather has been lovely.
“We’ve been to the event for the last two years and it’s a good event – getting families together to enjoy activities, and there is always plenty to do.”
Sunicha Hirst, from Colne, visited with her daughter Isabella, 11, and son Leighton-James, 6. She said: “It’s our first time at the event after I spotted it advertised on Facebook, and I think it’s brilliant.
“There is something for everyone. My children loved the Ozobots and spent ages playing with them, and we really enjoyed the Science experiment. It’s good that the day is educational as well.”
Principal Amanda Melton said: “The Family Fun Day is one of the events of the year that people really look forward to and I’m delighted to see that a record number of visitors came along to enjoy our brilliant line up of activities this year and to also enjoy the excellent entertainment on offer on the day.
“Our new course guide for Autumn is also now out, packed with a wide range of courses to help adults across the county learn a new skill, enhance their social life, or develop their career prospects.
“Our dedicated team of expert staff are ready to help members of the public with any course enquiries that they may have and to sign up learners onto any of the courses that catch their eye.”
As well as its targeted delivery and partnership work, Lancashire Adult Learning offers a huge range of planned provision across the Red Rose County, from Arts and Crafts to Humanities classes, Languages to Health and Wellbeing sessions and Functional Skills English and Maths and Employability courses.
In February 2018, Lancashire Adult Learning was named as the inaugural winner of the national Adult and Community Learning Provider of the Year at the TES FE Awards.
